Searching & Filtering

The Search features available on Audius allow you to discover new music, artists, and playlists that match your preferences. Whether you know exactly what you're looking for or just want to explore, Audius offers both basic and advanced search options to help you find what you need. This guide will walk you through the different ways you can search and filter content on Audius.

Basic Search

To start a search, use the search bar at the top of any page. You can enter specific keywords such as song titles, artist names, or genres to find exactly what you're looking for.

Keywords: Enter keywords related to tracks, artists, albums, or playlists to get relevant results.

Search Without Keywords: If you're not sure what to search for, click the magnifying glass icon or press the return key without typing any text. This action will open a blank search page, allowing you to explore different music options using filters.

Filtering Search Results

Audius offers advanced search filtering which allows you to refine your search results further. These filters can help you discover new content even if you don't have a specific track or artist in mind.

Applying Search Filters

  1. Select a Search Type:
    • At the top right of the search page, choose a search type: Profiles, Tracks, Albums, or Playlists.
  2. Choose Filters:
    • Depending on the selected search type, different filter options will be available.
    • You can apply multiple filters simultaneously to narrow down your search results.

Types of Filters

Each search type offers different filters to help you refine your results:

  • Profiles: Genre, Verified
  • Tracks: Genre, Mood, Key, BPM, Premium, Downloads Available
  • Albums: Genre, Mood, Premium, Downloads Available
  • Playlists: Genre, Mood

Descriptions of Filters

  • Genre: Filter results by specific music genres such as hip-hop, electronic, or pop.
  • Mood: Select from different moods (e.g., upbeat, mellow, sad) to find tracks that match a specific vibe.
  • Key: Filter tracks by their musical key. The key is automatically detected for new uploads but can be manually adjusted by the uploader.
  • BPM (Beats Per Minute): Find tracks based on tempo. Choose from preset ranges (from very slow to very fast) or use the "Target" option to specify an exact BPM. BPM is automatically detected for new uploads but can be adjusted manually.
  • Premium: Search for content that requires payment to listen to or download.
  • Downloads Available: Show tracks with downloadable content, including full tracks or extras like stems and source files.
  • Verified: Focus your search on profiles that have been verified by Audius.

Metadata and Tag Searches

Audius tracks, albums, and playlists often include metadata such as genre, mood, BPM, and key, which appear as clickable links. When you click on these links, Audius automatically performs a refined search using that metadata as a filter, allowing you to discover more content that fits those specific criteria.

Additionally, Audius supports tag-based searches. Tags are keywords associated with content that describe its characteristics or themes. Clicking on a tag will take you to a search results page filled with other tracks, albums, or playlists that share the same tag, making it easy to explore similar content.

Sorting Results and Changing Views

  • Sort Options: On the right side of the search page, you can use a drop-down menu to sort results by relevance, popularity, or recency.
  • View Options: You can switch between Grid and List views to change how search results are displayed, making it easier to browse through content based on your preferences

By utilizing these search features, you can easily explore new music, find specific tracks, and discover different artists and genres that match your taste on Audius.
